A little bit of history:
The Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-27 fighter-bomber, also known by the NATO code Flogger D, was developed by the Soviet aircraft industry by deriving the structure of the Mig-23 fighter. The main aim was to optimise its capabilities for effective ground attack and close support missions. Although sharing the aerodynamic layout of the Mig-23, the Mig-27 is distinguished by a new nose configuration.
To better suit its new role, significant improvements have been made to the on-board avionics. This includes the installation of a radar dedicated to the detection, acquisition and targeting of ground targets, as well as the integration of new electronic countermeasure systems. The offensive armament has been considerably improved with the adoption of a six-tube 30mm cannon, more powerful than that of the Mig-23. In addition, the capacity to carry air-to-ground missiles, bombs and rockets has been extended, allowing a payload in excess of 4,000 kg.
