A touch of history:
The North American P-51 Mustang remains unquestionably one of the most famous aircraft in the history of military aviation, hailed as the best single-seat piston-engined fighter of the Second World War. One of its first iterations, the P-51A, was deployed in combat as early as 1942. Equipped with the new Allison V-1710 engine, it reached a top speed in excess of 650 km/h and was armed with four Browning 12.7 mm machine guns integrated into the wings, guaranteeing significant firepower.
The aircraft's already remarkable range could be extended with the addition of two tanks under the wings. Used by the U.S. Air Force and the British Royal Air Force, renamed Mustang Mk.II by the latter, the P-51 quickly achieved excellent operational results in a variety of missions such as air defence, bomber escort and tactical support.
