Introduction to the model:
In 1942, reefer wagons were built with the aim of keeping suitable goods cool. These wagonshad several specific materials:
- A 300 mm thick layer and an inner lining of zinc sheet to protect the wood from damp
- To keep the doors watertight, the revolving doors were replaced by sliding doors
- Vertical panels were painted white
From the 1950s, the German railway company DB made several changes to the design but also remodelled it. For example, the bearing-mounted axles required a lot of maintenance, and therefore wasted time, so the engineers replaced them with other, more modern bearings.
Model train manufacturer Brawa, therefore offers you a reproduction in HO: 1/87th scale of these wagons.
