A little history:
Italian Railways (FS) manufactured 9 ALn 442 series diesel multiple units by Breda, intended for high-quality passenger transport on diesel /448 lines. Until 1972, they were used mainly to replace TEE trains pulled by locomotives. On board, a special built-in kitchen was present to prepare food and drink for seat service, due to the lack of catering space.
After their use as TEEs, the trains were converted to ALn 448/460s, with the removal of the kitchen and the addition of seats. They were then used as express trains, mainly in southern Italy. The ALn were very popular thanks to their high level of comfort and speed (up to 140 km/h), offering fast journeys.
