The model Y cars, also referred to as UIC (Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer), were put into service by the SNCF.
They were designed by the DEV (Division des études des voitures) and were delivered between 1963 and 1976 under the code 1327.
This range of carscomprised several distinct series, such as:
- 185 units of type A9.
- 53 units of type A4B5.
- 305 units of type B10.
- 43 units of type A7D.
- 118 units of type B5D.
- 175 units of type A4c4B5c5.
- 448 units of type B9c9.
These railcars were capable of reaching a maximum speed of 160 km/h!
Although the majority of these models have been withdrawn from service, some were used for special trains until around 2006.
