Specially designed for passenger transport, the self-propelled IC4 trainsets now serve the German, Austrian and Swiss rail network. Deutsche Bahn AG, a railway company owned by the German federal government, ordered 300 of them from Siemens Mobility in 2011. They run on the Hamburg-Würzburg, Stuttgart-Munich and Hamburg-Berlin-Munich lines. These high-speed trains are equipped with BR 412/812 engines, designed in collaboration with Bombardier. This modern rolling stock is made up of modular units and can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h.
