Choosing the right mini chairlift

What is a miniature télésiège?

A télésiège is a mode of transport usedé in the mountains to ferry passengers to the summits. The high-altitude restaurant at l39;Aiguille du midi in the Chamonix valley, for example, is served by a mechanical lift that opens an exceptional panorama on the Alps. A miniature télésiège is a reproduction à scale of this type of device. It is used in modelling to reproduce a three-dimensional mountain landscape down to the smallest detail. This type of diorama can be used, for example, to illustrate a miniature railway on the theme of winter sports. A miniature télésiège is made up of different éléments sold separately or in kits:

The télécabin
Cabins are the cars of a télésiège. In winter, for example, they give skiers access to the slopes. They can carry several people at a time, either seated or standing, on slopes with a high gradient. In railway modelling, there are télécabins reproduced with characters à the interior.

.

The traction câble
The traction câble is an essential part of a mechanical lift. It is a robust cable used to move the cabins along the line of the cable. It is available in 10-metre reels from pattern shops.

The pylônes
Téphériic pylônes are structures used to support the câbles and hold the téphériic line in place. They are generally located at regular intervals along the length of the teacup line. They are designed to withstand the forces and stresses exerted by the cabins. These miniature plastic components measure between 120 and 160 mm on the HO scale.

The driving station
The engine station is located at the bottom of the line of the tramway. This is where the starting point of the cable is located, as well as the motors needed to operate the cables. In model railways, there are miniature model railways equipped with a digital encoder. This is used to control the interior lighting, station motors and other accessories.

The upper station
The upper station of the line is located at the top of the crest. It is the end point of the journey, where the cabins stop to allow passengers to disembark. Some model brands offer complete kits to build the buildings of a mountain station. Don't forget to check out our catalogue of miniature lifts.

A steel case
A steel case to support the weight of the miniature telescope and the items being transported.

Paper or cardboard
You can make the cabins for the miniature téphérique using lightweight materials, such as plastic, wood or cardboard. Check that they are strong enough to withstand use and that they can bear the weight of the objects being transported.

.

Wooden chopsticks
You can use wooden chopsticks or metal rods to build the pylons of the miniature telescope. Make sure they are high enough to allow the cabins to be moved between the start and finish points. Securely fasten the pylons to ensure the stability of the structure.

An electric motor
You can use a miniature electric motor to propel the cabins along the coast. Adapt the power of the engine to the weight of the cabins and the objects being transported.

Hose clamps
Use clamps, screws or other appropriate fasteners to securely fasten the various components of the miniature tug, such as pylons, cabins and wheels.

Please note, making a miniature téphérique requires DIY skills, as well as the use of appropriate tools. Take all the necessary precautions when building and using the miniature téphérique.

How to create relief in a diorama?

Without relief, there is no télésiège miniature. To install a meacute;canic mount à l'échelle in a diorama, it is necessary to creéegrave;ce of any room a crêt, a pic, a valley, or any other form of délevel;.

Prépare your base
Use a sheet of plywood as a base for your diorama. Make sure it's strong enough to support the weight of your furniture.

Create relief
Use crumpled newspaper, foam or polystyrene to give a basic shape to the relief of your model. Glue these materials together using white glue or hot glue to form the hills, mountains or valleys of your three-dimensional landscape.

Sculpt the détails
Use a carving knife, razor blade or sculpting tools to refine the shape of your relief. Create slopes, ridges, crevices and other natural features by sculpting the basic materials. Take care and proceed slowly to achieve the desired details.

Apply a filler
Use modelling plaster or filler to smooth surfaces and fill imperfections. Spread the filler over the relief with a spatula or brush, taking care to cover all areas.

Customise the relief
Use sand, gravel, static grass, moss or small pieces of wood to customise your relief. Glue these materials to the still-fresh plaster, pressing them lightly to fix them.

Paint the décor
Apply an undercoat of acrylic paint to the whole diorama to even out the base colours. Then use different shades of paint to represent the different features of the landscape, such as grass, rocks, snow, etc.

Finalise the details

How to create artificial snow?

To create artificial snow in a diorama in railway modelling, here's a simple method you can follow:

NECESSARY MATERIAL

  • artificial snowflakes
  • white glue
  • the paintbrush
  • the water sprayer

STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED

Prépare your surface
Make sure that the surface of your diorama is clean and dry. If you want to create snow, it is necessary to protect existing accessories, such as trees or model buildings, with adhesive tape to protect them.

Apply white glue
Use a brush to apply a thin layer of white glue to the areas of the diorama whereù you want to have snow. Work in small sections to avoid the glue drying out, before applying the snowflakes to the diorama.

Add the snowflakes
Sprinkle the artificial snowflakes evenly over the areas covered in glue. Cover the surface of the diorama evenly to achieve a realistic snow effect.

Apply lightly
Once the snowflakes have been sprinkled on, press lightly on them with your hand or a clean brush to make them adhere to the glue. This will hold the snowflakes in place and remove any excess snow from the diorama.

Let sécher
Leave the artificial snow to dry completely. This may take a few hours or even overnight, depending on the amount of glue used.

Remove the excess snow
Once the snow is dry, you can remove the excess by gently tapping your diorama to remove any flakes that are still attached. You can also use a soft brush to gently sweep the snow away.
