A little history :
In the early 1980s, as part of the Austro cycle, three express trains were launched to provide fast daytime connections from Vienna to Switzerland. One of these trains, named "Lake Zurich," found its terminus in the eponymous Swiss city.
In May 1987, with the timetable change, European railways introduced a new category of train called "EuroCity." These international trains had to meet strict quality criteria in terms of journey time and rolling stock. As part of this transition, the "Zürichsee" express train was integrated into the EuroCity network as the "Maria Theresia."
