Founded in 1945 by Alessandro Rossi, a miniature train enthusiast, this company was born after the purchase of an electric switch company. Together with his associate Riva, he quickly transformed this company into the first Italian manufacturer of electric trains, shortly before the Lima company.
The first productions were OO scale toys in alternating current. The first HO 1/87th scale model was the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha train steam locomotive, produced from 1948 to 1954.The company went on to produce Italian models and other networks with, in particular, models of prestigious trains, sleeping cars and American equipment including the famous Big Boy.
In the years 1990, Rivarossi bought the brands Lima, Arnold and Jouef, before being bought by Hornby in 2004. The brand was retained, but production was transferred to China.
