The LR Press opinion:
The trams of yesteryear have an undeniable charm, and one regrets all the more the absence of typically French equipment at retailers... These regrets were reiterated on reading this very fine book on the Compagnie des Chemins de fer économique du Nord (CEN) which, as its name suggests, operated lines in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions as well as in Isère and Haute-Savoie! The centrepiece of this Empain company, however, was the Valenciennes tram network, hence the title of the book. Page after page, you'll discover a bygone world of carriages and typical two-cab, streamlined locomotives. But you can also look forward to the return of the tramway to Valenciennes, an event that is not forgotten. There's no doubt that after reading this book, you'll find inspiration for a network of bucolic roadside railways; unless you decide to install a tram to serve your miniature town...
