The P8s of the Prussian Railway, were manufactured in approximately 4,000 examples from 1906, to be put into service on the rail networks of many European countries. These machines ran on the P.O-Midi, Alsace-Lorraine, Est and Nord networks.
In France, 162 type P8 locomotives were initially supplied by Germany in 1919. Then 4 other models were added, recovered in 1945 during wartime.
