A little touch of history:
In September 1981, the SNCF company wanted to demonstrate that it was possible to run a train at 260 km/h every day in complete safety. Hence the launch of the "TGV 100" operation, which aimed to reach a speed of 360 km/h using the brand new infrastructure and standard equipment.
After several tests on the Alsace plain, the press was invited to attend the speed record attempt on 26 February 1981. At 3.28pm, the train was launched, then at 3.41pm at kilometre point PK154, the maximum speed of 380 km/h was reached. The previous speed record (331 km/h) set in 1955 was beaten.
