The short history of the Austrian passenger train:
On 1 July 1872 the Austrian Voralberg Railway was founded, linking Lindau - Bludenz, Lauterach - St. Margrethen and Feldkirch - Buchs. To improve the profitability of its depots, a direct connection to the monarchy's rail network was essential. The Vorarlbergbahn was one of the first projects to link up with the other Austrian railways.
