A little history:
100 years of ÖBB
The history of the Austrian railways has always been eventful. On 19 July 1923, the National Council passed the Federal Railways Act, with which a separate economic entity, the Austrian Federal Railways (BBÖ), was created as a company for the first time.Due to the enormous poverty of coal at the time, electrification was pushed through. After the turmoil of the Second World War, the focus was on reconstruction. This was followed by the replacement of steam locomotives and the introduction of the first regular timetable.
