Presentation of the 25000 series electric locomotive:
Between 1955 and 1958, 9 CC 2500 series locomotives were ordered by the SNCF railway company. These locomotives were used in the mountainous regions of Savoie, notably on the Aix les Bains- La Roche sur Foron and Annemasse-St Gervais lines in France. These locomotives were one of the first to operate under a 25 Kv (3-rail) alternating current operating system.
The CC6051 locomotive was designed to carry out tests on the Höllentalbahn, which at the time operated with 20kV alternating current. These rather promising tests encouraged the SNCF railway company to order the electrical part of the new machine from Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. The mechanical part was produced in France by Batignolles-Châtillon in Nantes.
The CC25008 was the last machine to be withdrawn from service in 1979 and the CC25001 was kept as a museum locomotive.
