The BB 130000 series, comprises electric locomotives operating on 25 kV-50 Hz single-phase alternating current. In France, electric locomotive traction (at 1,500 V DC) was too expensive. They were only profitable, on heavily used railway lines.
The four series (BB 12000, BB 13000, CC 14000 and CC 14100)are grouped together under the name "iron à repasser". The railway company SNCF, has asked to design different engines for each of the 4 series, in order to evaluate which will be the best.
The BB 12000 and 13000 are mixed locomotives capable of pulling fast passenger trains and freight trains. As for the other two series, they hauled heavy and slow goods, known as "Train du Régime Ordinaire" (R.O).
