A Heritage Preserved
Before the outbreak of the First World War, the little Vincennes line was powered by the energy of type 031T EST tender locomotives. Under the aegis of Emile Duchâtel, a visionary engineer, the EST company embarked on an ambitious project to optimise its locomotives. This was the genesis of the 131 TB series, machines that have gone down in history for their efficiency and ease of maintenance.
Design and Distribution
The first units in this series, designed by the Ateliers de Construction du Nord de la France and the Fives-Lille company, were distributed between the Paris-la-Villette, Ferté-Milon and Nogent-Vincennes depots. These locomotives stood out for their excellent acceleration capacity and flexibility, rapidly downgrading earlier models and allowing the introduction of heavier carriages.
Resilience to the Test of Time
Integrated into the SNCF in 1938, these machines served faithfully during and after the Second World War, testifying to their robustness and adaptability. Despite the tumult of history, the 131 TBs continued in service until their well-deserved retirement in 1969.
