This scale model is an HO-scale reproduction of a 4-door SNCF tombereau wagon, ex-PLM. It is offered by REE Modèles under the reference WB-820.
The PLM company, operating from 1857 to 1938, managed an extensive rail network that connected the Mediterranean regions of France to Paris and Lyon. Its key role in the rail transport sector facilitated trade between these regions. In 1937, the SNCF was created, leading to the merger of PLM with this new entity. This merger enabled SNCF to acquire PLM's specialised wagons, which were specifically designed to transport various bulk goods, such as coal, gravel, sand and similar materials. These wagons were characterised by their lowered walls and functional doors, making it easier to load and unload goods. Today, these wagons are a testament to PLM's essential role in the development of the French rail network. They embody the technological advances and innovations introduced by PLM to improve the transport of bulk goods.
