This scale model is an HO-scale reproduction of a 4-door SNCF tombereau wagon, ex-PLM. It is offered by REE Modèles under the reference WB-823.
From 1857 to 1938, the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) operated an extensive rail network linking the country's Mediterranean regions to Paris and Lyon. During this period, PLM played a key role in rail transport, facilitating trade between these regions. In 1937, the Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF) was created, leading to the merger of PLM with this new entity. This merger enabled the SNCF to acquire PLM's specialist wagons, which were specifically designed to transport a variety of bulk goods, including coal, gravel, sand and similar materials. These wagons were characterised by their low walls and practical doors, which made it easier to load and unload the goods being transported. Today, these wagons bear witness to PLM's heritage and its leading role in the development of the French rail network. They are a tangible reminder of the technological advances and innovations implemented by PLM to improve the transport of bulk goods.
