The P 8 was a versatile locomotive, present in front of all types of trains. After the ravages of the two world wars, it was in service with almost all European railway administrations. These machines were used in Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and the Soviet Union. After the First World War, 162 locomotives arrived in France. In 1945, the SNCF welcomed four more locomotives.
