History of the CC65000 Locomotive:
The SNCF placed an order on 1 February 1955 for twenty Diesel-electric locomotives, known as the CC 65000. These locomotives were an important milestone in French railway construction, being the first "mainline" diesel locomotives, designed to carry both freight and passengers. The first of this series was delivered to the La Rochelle-Bongraine depot in December 1956. They were mainly in service on the Nantes - Bordeaux line and its offshoots, playing a major role in freight and passenger transport until the late 1970s. Later, their use was mainly limited to the transport of freight trains, often in double configuration.
Between 1981 and 1988, the CC 65000 series was withdrawn from service, with the exception of two preserved examples: the CC 65001, on display at the Cité du train in Mulhouse, and the CC 65005, which was taken over by the Train des mouettes (in 2022, it was being restored in Saintes).
