History of the train Le Mistral :

Le Mistral' was a fast train operated by the SNCF that ran between Paris and Nice from 1950 to 1982. It bore the number 1 in the Paris-Nice direction and the number 2 in the Nice-Paris direction.

The history of the Mistral began in 1950, when the train was brought into service to replace a Bugatti railcar running between Marseille and Nice. Thanks to the gradual electrification of the line, the Mistral was able to reach maximum speeds of 160 km/h from the 1960s.

From 1965 to 1981, the Mistral was part of the Trans-Europ-Express network. In 1981, it reverted to an ordinary fast train with the addition of second-class Corail carriages, before being withdrawn altogether in 1982. Despite plans to replace it with first-class TGV equipment, the Mistral has remained a legendary train.

The Mistral offered a first-class service including luxurious, air-conditioned carriages, and many innovations such as automatic doors, a restaurant, a bar car, a shop, an art gallery, a secretarial service, hostesses, and even a hairdressing salon. The train was pulled by different locomotives over the years.

The Mistral also had its place in cinema, and similar carriages were used on other international routes. After it was discontinued, some of the Mistral's equipment was sold to other countries for use on other prestigious lines.
