This train set is an HO scale reproduction of PLM tombereau wagons with 4 doors. It is offered by REE Modèles under the reference WB-814.
The tombereau wagons registered SL 225032 and SL 225471 were railway vehicles specially designed to transport bulk materials, such as gravel, coal, ore , etc.. These open wagons were fitted with four doors to make it easier to unload their loads. They were used in particular by the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM), one of the leading French railway companies of the time. Founded in 1857, PLM operated an extensive network of railway lines linking Paris to Lyon and the Mediterranean, with branches to major destinations such as Marseille, Nice, Geneva, Montpellier and other major cities. The company was renowned for its luxury passenger trains, such as the Orient-Express and the Train Bleu, which ran between Paris and international and tourist destinations. To transport a variety of goods, PLM used different types of carriage, including tombereau wagons. In 1938, PLM merged with other French rail companies to form Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF), which is the national rail operator in France today.
