Presentation of the Steam Locomotive Express Class 13 EST :
This locomotive was put into service in the early 1920s by the French EST railway company. This company had an urgent need to move their "heavy" express trains operating on the Paris - Belfort - Basle line.
These locomotives could reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h, and pull a train weighing up to 700 tonnes (a speed of 115 km/h was required, thus a continuous power of 2,720 horsepower).
A project was also envisaged, which aimed to pull an 800-tonne train at a speed of 80 km/h while developing a power of 3,540 horsepower.
