A little history:
The prototype of the voitures Bacalan was designed by the Office central d'études de matériel de chemins de fer (OCEM). Manufactured by Ateliers Dyle & Bacalan, in Bordeaux, these rail vehicles are recognisable by the visible rivets used to assemble their metal structure - these are smaller than on the OCEM cars, which are more susceptible to corrosion. 185 examples were put into service between 1929 and 1931. Each car had 11 3rd class compartments marked C11 followed by an identification number. Their appearance changed several times. In 1956, their registration was changed, the third class having disappeared, the C11 being replaced by B11. Bacalan coaches continued to be found until the 1980s, notably under the name Corail.
