A little history:
The Bacalan passenger carriages owe their name to the Bordelais manufacturer who assembled them between the wars. They were produced at the Dyle et Bacalan workshop, while the OCEM was carrying out research to improve the corrosion resistance of the rolling stock of the time. After an initial series of prototypes, 185 were put into service between 1929 and 1931. Each vehicle was particularly robust, weighing almost 44 tonnes. This quality of construction explains why examples of Bacalan-type passenger carriages can be found in the 80s.
