In 1943, the 42 series heavy war locomotive was developed with an axle pressure of 17 t.It was intended for use in Austria, but also in occupied areas where the superstructure allowed.The project to build 8,000 locomotives (later renamed 5,000) was halted at the end of the war, and eventually more than 860 were produced.The locomotives were used by DB until 1960 and by DR until around 1970.
