A little history:
German Federal Railways quickly adopted the use of smaller shunting locomotives to move passenger and goods wagons around stations. In 1965, Gmeinder presented an evolution of the Köf 11, incorporating power transmission via cardan shafts and additional axle gears. This new version, initially designated Köf 12, gave rise to 251 shunting locomotives delivered to the Deutsche Bundesbahn, grouped under the 333 series.
To improve staff efficiency, the majority of these locomotives were fitted with radio remote control from the late 1980s, becoming the 335 series. From 2010, some of these small locomotives were also used within the Bahnbau Group.
