A little history:
The CC 72000, a series of diesel-electric locomotives produced by Alsthom, numbered 92 and were the most powerful SNCF locomotives. Put into service from 1967, they regularly served the Swiss cities of Basle and Geneva on international routes.
These locomotives shone when pulling Trans-Europ-Express (TEE) trains such as the "Jules Verne" between Paris-Montparnasse and Nantes, and the "L'Arbalète" between Paris-Est and Zurich as far as Basle. However, in December 2009, the CC 72000s performed their last regular commercial services on the Nantes - Tours - Lyon line. Recognisable by the powerful noise of their engines, these locomotives mark an era in French railway history.
