A little history:
The 03.10 series steam locomotives that remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn received a new high-performance boiler from 1959, as this was intended to achieve greater economy in day-to-day operation.The machines were called "Rekoloks" They also installed a square-shaped mixer driver in front of the track.A few years later, in 1965, all the DR's remaining locomotives were converted to fuel oil. The locomotives were used in daily express traffic before most of them were retired in the 1970s and put on express tracks. During their years of service with DR, they covered a record mileage of around 20,000 kilometres a month.
