This scale model is an N-scale reproduction of steam locomotive 52 5354 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the railway company of the German Democratic Republic. It is offered by Fleischmann as part number 7170001.
Steam locomotive 52 5354 was asteam locomotive used by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR), the East German railway company during the period of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It was part of Class 52, a standard class of steam locomotives used during the Second World War and in the years that followed. These locomotives were built in large numbers to meet the military transport needs of Nazi Germany. Class 52 locomotives were built from 1942 by several manufacturers in Germany, including Henschel, Krupp, and Schwarzkopff. They were equipped with 1'Dh2 axles, which meant that they had a carrying axle at the front followed by a group of driving axles and another carrying axle at the rear. After the end of the Second World War, Class 52 locomotives were used by various railway companies across Europe, including the Deutsche Reichsbahn in East Germany. With the advent of diesel and electric traction, steam locomotives were gradually withdrawn from service. However, some Class 52 locomotives, including 52 5354, have been preserved and are still used at special railway events or as part of railway museums.
