A little history:
Originally, the WR 360 C 14 diesel locomotives were designed by the German Wehrmacht for crucial strategic applications. However, at the end of the Second World War, they found new life as multi-purpose locomotives for civilian use.
It is interesting to note that, although the locomotives continued to be referred to as V 36s in both West and East Germany after the war, there were notable differences between the two variants. On the DB side, additional fuel tanks were added to the front of the engine to increase the locomotive's range. In addition, the DB-V 36 was fitted with a DB-style front grille and an expansion tank for the cooling system at the front. The side grilles for the radiator fans were closed with covers, and no side maintenance hatch was provided on the rod.
These locomotives, eventually designated as the 236 series, continued in DB service until 1981.
