Before the end of the war, 44 DRG class E 94 locomotives were present on Austrian territory. In 1952, the ÖBB railway ordered a further 3 locomotives. The name of the series was changed from E 94 to 1020 in 1954. The 1020 series was used for freight train services in almost all of Austria for more than 5 decades.
