The 030TU steam locomotive series was imported from the United States by the US Army during the liberation of the European continent under the designation USATC S100.
These railway engines were designed in wartime to perform shunting operations for the trains of the Transportation Corps of the US Army;U.S. Army Transportation Corps (USATC) and the Allies in World War II, before being passed on to the European networks.
These steam engines were built by 3 American manufacturers between 1942 and 1944:
- Daventport Locomotives Works, located in daventport, Iowa.
- H.K Porter situé à Pittsburgh.
- Vulcan Iron Works stué à Wilkes-Barre (Pennsylvania).
The SNCF acquired 77 machines 030TU as well as the Rie département des Bouches-du-Rhônes with machines registered n°40 , 41 and 42.
