Electric power station in suburban service
DB's new construction programme included a tank locomotive for passenger service in suburban service. A driving wheel diameter of 1,500 mm and a maximum speed of 85 km/h have been specified éeacutee; à this purpose.Krauss-Maffei AG delivered the first intelligent prototypes, the 65 001 and 002, in Munich in March 1951. A further eleven machines (65 003-013) entered service during the year, followed by the 65 013-018 in 1955/56.An absolute bastion of safety was the Darmstadt depot, where eleven locomotives (65 001-011) were stationed between 1954 and 1966.After various checks, from autumn 1964 onwards, they only ran in regional traffic on the Odenwald Darmstadt - Erbach - Eberbach route and on the two Odenwald branch lines at Weinheim/Bergstraße à Wahlen and Fürth/Odenwald.
