A little touch of history:
After the Second World War, the DRG's former stars were mostly in an alarming state of disrepair - especially the aerodynamic fairing. Once they had been withdrawn and refurbished, the 01.10 series became an important pillar of high-quality express train traffic. In the course of various conversions or modernisations, but above all the necessary new boiler, a total of 34 locomotives were converted towards the end of the 1950s to be fitted with oil-fired main heating.
These more efficient machines could now cover distances of up to 700 km. In 1968, the 01.10s were renamed 011 (coal) and 012 (oil). The last of these machines, which reached a speed of 140 km/h and developed a power of 1,818 kW when fuelled by fuel oil, were not withdrawn from service until 1975 at Rheine.
