A little history:
The Bacalan carriages were manufactured in the inter-war period in Bordeaux, in the workshops of the manufacturer Dyle et Bacalan. That's where they got their name from. This series of rail vehicles was designed by OCEM to remedy the corrosion problems affecting vehicles of the time. The first prototypes showed significant progress, and the PLM company ordered 185 examples of this passenger car, recognisable by its visible rivets. In service from 1929 to 1931, they were called C11yfi, because they had 11 third-class compartments. In the 1950s, the SNCF renamed these compartments B11, as third class had just been abolished.12 examples were converted into restaurant cars called C4syfi. In the 1980s, 89 Bacalan coaches were still in circulation. The last models were retired in 1986.
